Scholarship Funds

All scholarships
and grants have an application date of April 15th, except for
the American Legion Scholarship which has an application date of
December 15th.
The Orange Foundation’s Olga Fund was established in 2002. The
fund provides assistance to a wide array of recipients,
including senior Orange residents, community service
organizations in Orange, and scholarship assistance.
The American Legion’s Vincent Timmins Scholarship Fund was
established in 1966. In honor of one of Post#127’s dedicated
Legionnaires. Eligible/applicants are children and grandchildren
of Orange Post #127 members.
The Orange Foundation’s Thomas Birmingham, Jr Scholarship Fund
was established in 1981. This fund recognizes students who are
both an athlete and a scholar. Recipients must maintain a B+ or
higher average and must earn one or more letters in a varsity
sport.
The Orange Foundation’s Charles L. Flynn Scholarship Fund which
was established in 1976. This scholarship provides assistance
for either undergraduate or graduate tuition, room, and board.
The Orange Foundation General Fund which was established in
1976.
The Orange Foundation’s Antonette Giangarra Scholarship Fund was
established in 2012 to provide assistance at the undergraduate
or graduate level to a student who has maintained a B+ or higher
average and who will major in education.
The Orange Foundation’s Benedict Giangarra Scholarship Fund was
established in 2012 to provide assistance at the undergraduate
or graduate level to a student who excels in math, and has
maintained a B+ or higher average, and who will major in
engineering.
The Orange Foundation’s Harry Haynes Scholarship Fund which was
established in 1976. This fund is designed for assistance to a
student of Veterinary Medicine. If there are no suitable
applicants in Veterinary Medicine, then it can be awarded to
those pursuing other majors.
The Orange Foundation’s William Knight Scholarship Fund was
established in 1986.This scholarship is awarded in even numbered
years with selection based upon a combination of the student’s
financial need, scholarship record, and, most importantly,
service to the community.
The Elizabeth C. and John W. Povilaitis Community Fund was
established in 1989. This provides scholarship assistance;
medical research for heart disease, hypertension, or cancer;
medical equipment for the Orange nursing service; books for the
library; or services for the sick, lame, and elderly of Orange.
The Orange Foundation’s Mary L. Tracy Memorial Scholarship Fund
was established in 1993. This fund provides assistance for
students who plan to attend college as an elementary education
or related major. Recipients must maintain a B average and
participate in extra curricular and community service
activities.
The Frank P. and Louise Horbal Tripp Scholarship Fund was
established in 2006 for students of Lithuanian or Ukrainian
decent who live in Ansonia or Derby, Connecticut.
The Vaughn Family Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 for
students attending college. The scholarship gives special
consideration for financial need. Applicants must be in the top
25% of their class.
